Jimmy Van Bramer's Poster Contest Winner

Here's Jimmy Van Bramer's "Curb Your Dog" poster contest winner, Sophia Aguirre.  Her poster is cute, and the winner was determined by votes on a website, but her poster isn't the most original I've seen.  In fact I've seen a meme that's very similar, only it has an actual picture of a dog.  I'm not saying they should strip the girl of her title (curb your dog poster contest champion?), but academic integrity is important.  Oh yeah, and neither of these images belongs to me.

I knew there was something familiar about her poster.  A friend forwarded this image to me on facebook.

Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer's "Curb Your Dog" Poster Contest

Here are the finalists from Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer's "Curb Your Dog" Poster Contest, a contest for kids in PS150, NYC to raise public awareness and "help keep our community clean of dog waste.  It is New York State Public Health Law 1310 that requires you to curb your dog.  I got all this information, including the picture, from https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XHC588V.  Voting has closed, I'm afraid, but the posters are great!

July 6, 2013: Beach Signs in Seaside Park, NJ

I'm still finding pictures from my vacation at the beginning of this month.  These are the signs that pepper the boardwalk in Seaside Park, New Jersey.  They keep dogs from pooping on the beach by restricting them from the beach altogether.  It also keeps them out of the dunes, which carries a hefty fine if caught (see photo below).  People may get away with it after the guards leave, but there are hefty fines if you're caught.

AshPooPie

Here's another product that promises to make cleaning up after your dog easier, but this one might actually do it.  It's called the AshPooPie, there are no special bags to purchase from the manufacturer, and it uses heat to eliminate dog waste almost entirely.  It does use some electricity, but otherwise there is very little consumed or wasted.  I think they should work on how they capitalize the product name, however, because some hick somewhere might think it's a pie made of ash and poo.

Aaralyn and Izzy Perform Dog Poop

Some are calling them the metal kids, with Izzy on drums and Aaralyn on vocals they're Murp.  I am so blown away by these two and how much fun they're having... I don't have the words to describe how awesome and incredible these two are.

The clip below is from America's Got Talent, and it includes a little of the backstory of the family.  There's no coercion or forcing the kids to practice, it's just kids having fun.  And the song is about dog poop.

Dog Poo in the Philippines

Here is a tweet from a man I spoke with on twitter about his experiences with dog poop.  He is from the Philippines, and the dog mess situation on his street is "terrible."

A Great Dane Taking a Big Poop

I found this video on youtube, and there are quite a few of dogs making poops on there.  They aren't very educational or awareness raising, but someone went to the trouble of making this and posting it.

German doo-doo bin

Here's one I found through twitter that both distributes bags and serves as a bin for used bags.  The picture is from somewhere in Germany.

Pissed Off Grandpa Throws Dog Poop On Owner

Here's a video from Warzawa, Poland.  The picture quality isn't perfect, but I believe the interaction and... um... exchange are real.  He throws the poop at the woman!  I do not condone this kind of activity, but if you see this in your neighborhood please film it for us!

PooPons, The app that turns dog poo into something good for everyone

I don't actually know a thing about this video, except what you see here.  I found it through twitter, and I can't figure out if it's a real thing or not.  My guess is that it's a video for film class.

July 10, 2013

I'm still finding some in my pictures from vacation, and here's another one from NJ.  I'm sorry my posts for this month have been so spotty and out of order, but seeing as how I don't have any followers here on the blog I know you'll forgive me.

kaydin's post on Vine

Here's another post from vine.  I wonder if the person who dreamed up vine thought people would use it to post little dog poop videos.  They probably did.

Doo-doo Feud at the Jersey Shore

The wait is over.  The much anticipated photos from the budding doo-doo feud down in New Jersey are here!  One morning we were going to my in-laws' house and found this turd on the steps.  It's got pebbles and sand with it, so it clearly was picked up by someone then deposited there.  It was trash day that day, and by the trash outside a house a couple of doors down I found an open bag of poop.

We called the police, and it's not considered vandalism because nothing was damaged.  I wanted to educate the officer about the dangers of dog poop but it wasn't really the time.  It'll simply show up in the report in case something else happens in the future.

July 13, 2013

Today had been a complicated day, and the Trayvon Martin verdict has raised questions more important than mere dog fouling.  But this is not a political forum, so we're going to stick with the dog doo-doo.

One picture is from right outside my building, at the end of the walk by the sidewalk.  I'm becoming more and more certain that it's coming from one of the little dogs that lives here.  We went down to Faneuil Hall for lunch, and the second picture was on the sidewalk as we were walking in.

July 11, 2013

Here's a picture that's a little different.  Rest assured that it is of dog poop, but it was taken using a small mountable camera that I put on my son's helmet when he's riding in the bike seat behind me.  It's called the Epic D1 Action camera, and while the picture on the box showed someone wearing it whitewater kayaking it is not waterproof.  I've seen nicer cameras out there but it's not bad for $60.  My son's head moves and bounces around so much that the video is almost unwatchable, but while we were riding I noticed this turd and stopped to get it with the camera.  It was an easy matter to take a screenshot with the poop cued up and here we are!

July 9, 2013

Well, I'm finally home.  We were vacationing at the Jersey Shore, right in the path of hurricane Sandy.  We were one town away from where the infamous MTV show was filmed with my wife's family, and the pictures and stories we heard of the storm were unbelievable.

Vacation was fun, relaxing, and I was able to get several pictures including one  that was highly controversial at the time.  I'm going to try and build some anticipation for this one, but I will say that my in-laws have something of a dog doo-doo feud in the making.

Some doo-doo in the front yard.  Note the pebbles; most yards have them instead of a lawn.  There are several turds here, and some may have come from my in-laws' pug.  Taken July 9, 2013

Inside the trash by the boardwalk in Seaside Park, NJ.  Lots of people walk their dogs on the boardwalk, and most of them clean up as evidenced by all the little poop bags.  Taken July 9, 2013

The Poop Painter of New York City

Here's a video filmed by a tour guide in New York City showing what one vigilante is doing to highlight poop left behind by irresponsible dog owners.  I was going to say literally highlighting the poop, but the person is using spray paint (not a highlighter).  The video was posted by tourguideStan, who runs a pedicab in NYC (www.oconnorgreentoursnyc.com).  I'm sure someone whose livelihood involves walking around the city all day has a vested interest in keeping the streets clean.

Submission from Whipple Hill in Lexington, MA

Here are some photos a friend sent me from a walk he took at Whipple Hill, a park in Lexington, MA.  He found these "shortly after passing a woman with a small dog, and a handful of plastic bags."  Looks like she missed some!

J - Stacks's post on Vine

I'm on vacation for another week here at the Jersey Shore, and I've seen a few turds but my internet connection remains unreliable so I haven't been able to upload any.  Here's a post on vine by someone called J - Stacks involving dog poop.  He seems to be threatening his friends with the turds while they're playing video games.  Looks like a good time!
