April 24, 2013

Today I may have set some kind of record, at least for this blog, of poops photographed in one day.  We took a walk to a nearby cemetery, and you can see for yourself how well people follow the sign by the entrance.  I got 29 pictures in all!

This poop was featured already with a woman with a metal detector in the background.  Taken April 24, 2013

People are not following this sign, as evidenced by the following 26 pictures of poop.  Taken April 24, 2013

This first picture might be my first real submission, submitted on twitter.  They're fighting the good fight  against dog doo-doo in Malahide, County Dublin (Ireland).

WHOA is right, that's a huge dog poop!  Sign from Malahide, County Dublin

I got this picture last night at work after I had already made the day's post.  The poop is well decomposed in the rocks by the Shell station near my work.  Taken April 22, 2013

This is the out of focus poop from yesterday (in front of the doo-doo house) after being run over by a car.  Taken April 23, 2013

This poop wasn't here yesterday when I walked by, but it rained last night so it looks older than it is.  Taken April 23, 2013

This would have been a great shot in front of the doo-doo house with flies on the poop and everything, but the camera phone decided not to focus on anything.  Taken April 22, 2013

This is apparently a dog poop removal service in Louisville, Kentucky.  It seems to be some kind of franchise opportunity that will advertise in the area and you purchase regions to cover.  The commercial isn't very clear, but someone on twitter brought this to my attention.

April 19, 2013

After spending the entire day inside watching the standoff with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in Watertown (not more than a mile from a friend's apartment and very close to where we used to live) we needed to stretch our legs and went for a walk.  We found a few poops, some old some new.

I was careful for this one and zoomed in.  This is where the two humping dogs were tied up on April 15th, and my wife said there was someone moving in the window today as I was trying to take a photo of what the dogs left behind.  Taken April 19, 2013

This pic is from someone I interacted with on twitter, and it's of some doo-doo that was left in a "car2go" car by its previous user.  According to my contact there was poop smeared in the rug and these are the sticks used to scrape the poop from their shoes.  Not what I would want to find when I picked up my car.

April 15, 2013: Boston Marathon

We were at the marathon today, in the Coolidge Corner area.  If my son hadn't been frightened of the crowd and cried every time we approached the race we probably would have all walked to the finish line.  Who knows, but all our thoughts and prayers for everyone at the marathon.

I have so many thoughts right now.  Who the F#$@$!%_@)& attacks a marathon?  Everyone comes to the marathon to cheer on the runners; there's no opposing team or reason to be anything but positive.  When things like this happen I wonder if a world without violence is even possible.

I see the news clips with all the flags lined up in front of the wreckage, and something drastic needs to change in the world before we destroy ourselves.  People are all fundamentally the same, and until we recognize and understand this violence will continue to terrorize the population of the world.  Whether it's organized by the government or one malcontent.

If we allow terrorists to interrupt our lives, we give them what they want.  They want us to live in fear, and be too afraid to do what we do.  To that end I have a few photos from today.  One is not dog poop but horse poop, from just outside Coolidge Corner and the marathon.  The rest are from around our neighborhood.

Some white poop.  Taken April 15, 2013

I wouldn't have seen this one if my wife hadn't pointed it out.  There's also a piece of white poop to the right.  Taken April 15, 2013
This is the reason I almost missed the above picture.  As we approached with the stroller, these two dogs growled and came up to bark at us.  They're tied up to a drain pipe, or something equally flimsy, and only have about two feet of lead between them so they are always stuck right next to each other.  At first they were growling and barking and seemed intimidating, and then the white one mounted the black one.  I was cracking up and had to get a picture.  Taken April 15, 2013

April 14, 2013

I got this picture from the Leave No Trace facebook page.  Leave No Trace (LNT) is the idea that while camping, hiking, or spending time outdoors we leave things as they were before we got there.  I first heard about this particular effort while on a NOLS semester trip.  While it can sometimes be impossible to leave things exactly as they were, it is important to make every effort to minimize our impact on the natural world.

April 13, 2013

I've posted a picture of this poop before, but now it's been stepped on.  Originally taken April 11, this was taken April 13, 2013.

Another blast from the past, this was originally photographed on April 8th.  It continues to decompose.  Taken April 13, 2013.

Here's a discovery I made today: a tree with lots and lots of poop all around its trunk.  I don't think dogs usually like to poop right on top of other poop, so it makes me think that someone is dumping their dog's poop here.  Taken April 13, 2013.

The same pile of poop from a higher angle.  There are some pieces farther away from the trunk too.  Taken April 13, 2013.

I wasn't sure if this was doo-doo or some kind of wild mushroom.  I photographed it anyway.  Taken April 13, 2013.

You have to look carefully to see these two pieces.  They're under this bush and the branches directly above them would have to be moved aside for poop to drop here.  Oh, the infinite mysteries of dog poop.  Taken April 13, 2013.

Here's another revisited poop.  The first time I saw it on April 3rd it was whole, but between then and April 8th someone stepped in it or kicked it.  Some of it is gone now, this is all that remains as of April 13, 2013.
The poop on the right seems to be mostly hair.  Taken April 13, 2013.

A closeup of the poop above.  Taken April 13, 2013.

An oddly colored poop.  Taken April 13, 2013.
I realize this isn't poop, but what is it?  I always thought it was some kind of egg case or mold spore thing.  Taken April 13, 2013
